FEST GROUNDS : 11:20 Folklore Village International Dancers: This group performs folk dances from Northern and Eastern Europe, wearing costumes representative of the countries who's dances they perform. They will invite audience participation. They are a volunteer performing group that has been together since the 70's with a desire to share fold dances and tell people about Folklore Village. 11:40 Hmong Keng Players: Made of bamboo, the Hmong Keng is an instrument used mainly for entertainment and funerals. This group will also dance. 11:55 Shining Star Hmong Dance Troupe: In their fourth year of performing, this group dances with a variety of props, including umbrellas, baskets (Kawj), fans, fabrics and flutes. These girls have come a long way to continue to represent the Hmong. 12:10 Greenbush Hebrew Ensemble: Music and dance of the Sephardic (Mediterranean) and Mizrachi (Middle Eastern) Jewish cultures. They have performed at Festa Italia, Great River Festival-La Crosse, Atwood Summerfest, Madison World Music Festival, Greenbush Day Celebration and Art Fair on the Square. They are the only women’s dance company to perform in the Cultural Village of Arab World Fest in Milwaukee. Upcoming performances include the Wily St. Fair and Fall For Dance: Bright Nights, a collaborative performance with Kanopy Dance at the Overture Center. Please visit http://www.madison.com/communities/sadira/index.php for more information. 1:30 Dando Mambo Dance Company: Founded in 2006 by Edgar Molina, what began in a basement with broken mirrors has flourished and is now a nationally-renown dance company. Dando Mambo has performed in Texas, California, Utah and Illinois, and will soon be making headlines in the Dominican Republic. However, the company has not forgotten its Alma Mater of Wisconsin, and it continues to reach out to Madison, Milwaukee and beyond to unite people through music. Their performance is comprised of Mambo partner work, freestyle footwork, and it is modeled after the Mambo of the Palladium era of the 40's and 50's in New York City. Legendary musicians such as Machito and Tito Puente, along with dancers like Cuba Pete, created a craze that salsa dancers of today keep alive on every continent except Antarctica.This dance company will perform a Cuban style of salsa called Rueda de Casino, as well as a Mambo routine. In addition to the troupe of Sevendancers, the group also includes an experiences bagpiper, Adam Borger, who provides the music for the dancers. Besides the Triangle Ethnic Fest, the group enjoys performing at the International Festival at madison's Overture Center each year. They will describe and perform the dances of Scotland to the music of the Highland bagpipe. Consisting of a range of dancers and abilities, they strive to share their love of Argentine tango with their audiences. MCT has performed in many venues in the Madison area, including: Fiesta Hispana, Celebrate Madison and the World Music Festival. The performance will include 5 to 6 dances, including choreographed and social dance pieces. Please visit http://www.pamana-madison.org/ for more information. 4:10 Announcements 4:20 Christina Bokas Native American Hoop Dance: The hoop dance is one of the oldest Native dances. It originated with the Taos Pueblas of New Mexico and was originally used for ceremonial purposes. Christina Bokas will dance with 27 hoops, and throughout the dance, she makes different formations with the hoops to depict things in nature such as birds, butterflies, globes, eagles, flowers, etc. She performs each year at Indian Summer in Milwaukee, as well as at the Wunk Sheek Pow Wow here in Madison every Spring. 4:40 Brisas del Peru: Brisas del Peru presents traditional and authentic folk dances from the South American country of Peru. They received the Community Service Award from the Mexican Festival Committee-COFEMEX 06' performance. Recently, they performed at the Overture Center for the Children's Art Fest of 2007. This group will perform two dances, including the "Festejo": festive music first developed in the plantation fields during the 18th century. The most joyous of Afro-Peruvian music and dance, festejo expresses happiness and freedom. The second dance will be the "Marinera Nortena": this is the national dance of Peru. This group was founded in 2006 at Bayview with the goal to share Bolivian Folklore with future generations. They have performed at the Overture Center, Olbrich Gardens, as well as many local and Chicago-based festivals.
